Romeo Crossing Park Project Bids To Go Out In January
The project was set to begin construction in the summer, but high prices have caused a delay.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — A major park project in Romeoville will be put out to bid at the beginning of 2023, according to the Village of Romeoville.
The Romeo Crossing Park project includes four phases, featuring two separate dog parks, parking, a sled hill, adapted sports field, restrooms and concessions, playground and trails.
In March, the Village shared on Patch that construction would begin in summer 2022, but now the project will be put to bid in the next bid cycle in January, Village Manager Dawn Caldwell said.

Caldwell said work has started with site clearing, tree inventory and design work.
"This year we planned for Phase 1; although because we were successful in obtaining grant funds, we decided to include both Phase 1 and 2 which will allow for the open space to be constructed sooner," Caldwell said. "The grant requirements and combining the phases required additional design work which delayed the project from our original schedule."

Due to the current bidding environment, Caldwell said the Village decided to bid on the project in January 2023.
"This project remains a priority of the Village Board, and we look forward to construction picking up again in the spring," Caldwell said.
Phase 1 and 2 of the project would include the dog park, grading for the sled hill and utility work.
The Village of Romeoville received funding through the Illinois Capital Bill through the Department of Commerce to create a dog park; a 4.8-acre area for large dogs and a 2.8-acre area for small dogs.
The Village received a $400,000 grant for phase 3 of the project, which would include the adaptive sports field, playground, musical play area, concession building, challenge course, shelter, multi-purpose trails, plaza, baggo courts, site furnishings, landscaping, restoration and butterfly garden.
Phase 4 would be the build-out of baseball fields, batting cages and parking.
The property is located at 400 W. Romeo Road.
