Romeoville Cops Become Avengers For National Night Out
Local police will host a superhero-themed evening of family fun.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Romeoville Police Department will host its first National Night Out event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, on the front lawn of the Romeoville Police Department, 1050 W. Romeo Road. For the first event, police opted for a “Superhero” themed event. Members of the Community Oriented Policing Division will be dressing up as members of the Avengers. The first 50 children to come to the event will receive a mask and cape as a special bonus to coming to the event.
Here is the schedule of events, tentatively planned by Event Coordinator Det. Kelley Henson.
- 5:30-6:30 p.m. Giveaways, meet and greets with members of the Traffic Unit, Community Oriented Division, Detectives Division and police officers/civilian employees dressed as Superhero’s, Bicycle Unit, Citizens Police Academy Booth and Romeoville Fraternal Order of Police members.
- 6:30-7:30 p.m. Kids games and activities, bounce houses, free snacks, hot dogs and sno-cones, and “Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles” show. Taser demonstration, tours of the police department and “Touch a Firetruck,Will County Sheriff’s SWAT Vehicles and REMA’s Command Vehicle”.
- 7:30-8:30 p.m. K-9 Demonstration and “Ride a Tricycle” with the DUI goggles.
Throughout the three hour event, officers will be on bike patrol to hand out their “Baseball Cards”as well as Blue Line wrist bands. There will be a live DJ for music and entertainment. Police will also have a rock climbing wall for the entire event.

Police will also be raffling off three bikes, along with helmets and one Ring Doorbell camera system. 911 will be providing free giveaways promoting the usage of calling 911 as well.

The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from 9,500 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Supporters and sponsors of the event include: Romeoville Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 15, Romeoville Citizens Police Academy, Romeoville’s Blains Farm and Fleet, Romeoville Recreation Department, Hampton Park Social Athletic Club (SAC) and Will County 911 Dispatch Center.
