Start 2026 by Saving Lives: Blood Drive Honors 35-Year-Old Cancer Survivor

As 2026 begins, many people are setting goals for the year ahead. For a local 35-year-old, the new year represents something far more personal—a future he nearly didn’t have.

William was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February 2023, beginning a grueling medical battle that required dozens of blood and platelet transfusions just to survive. His treatment was complicated by sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that weakens the immune system.

Since his diagnosis, William has received more than 20 units of blood and at least 15 platelet transfusions. In January 2025, he underwent a stem-cell transplant that failed to put him into remission, forcing him back into chemotherapy. In October, he reached a major turning point when he received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, who turned out to be a perfect match.

Today, William is on the road to recovery—because strangers rolled up their sleeves.

“You don’t realize how important platelets are until you need them,” William said. “There is no substitute for blood and platelet donations. Donors saved my life.”

Now, as the community enters the new year, William and his family are paying it forward by hosting a community blood drive, encouraging others to start 2026 by helping patients who rely on a steady blood supply during cancer treatment.
