Driver Was Drinking Corona Beers Before Black Road Head-On Crash: Shorewood Police

Shorewood police officers asked 22-year-old Jaylen Reyes to complete field sobriety testing, and he refused, the agency said.

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Shorewood Police Department investigated a head-on collision last week and that incident resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Romeoville resident Jaylen Reyes on charges of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane use.

The incident happened at 8:05 p.m. last Tuesday near the stoplight along Black Road at Shorewood Drive.
According to the arrest reports, Shorewood's officers were dispatched to Black Road for the crash.

According to police, officers saw two vehicles on Black Road in the eastbound lane and the vehicles collided head-on. Officers met with Reyes and smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, noticing that he was slurring his words and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, the police department noted.

Officers asked Reyes if he consumed any alcohol, and he said no, according to police. After the officers told Reyes they could smell the alcohol on his breath, the arrest report said Reyes stated he consumed “one, two, three, three max," noting he was drinking Coronas.

Officers asked Reyes to complete field sobriety testing, and he refused, police said.

Reyes was arrested for driving under the influence. Reyes comes from the 400 block of Julia Drive in Romeoville.
