Corrigan's Pub Customer Hits Tree On River Road After Consuming Coors Lights: Shorewood Police

SHOREWOOD, IL — A 25-year-old Bolingbrook man became the first person arrested in February by the Shorewood Police Department in connection with a DUI offense.

Shorewood police told Joliet Patch that Hunter Owens has been charged with DUI, criminal property damage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Owens had his wreck at 830 North River Road around 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

According to the Shorewood Police Department, officers were sent to 830 North River Road for the crash. The officers saw a damaged tree, several vehicle parts and multiple deployed airbags. The officers met with Owens, whose eyes were red and glossy, and his speech was slurred, police said.

Owens stated he attended a family gathering at Corrigan’s Pub and consumed four Coors Light beers, his arrest report showed.

After his last drink, Owens drove to the Gas N' Wash in Shorewood on Jefferson Street; after leaving there, he drove northbound on River Road and approached the intersection of Black Road, the police noted.

According to Shorewood police, Owens stated he drove through the intersection, lost traction, attempted to overcorrect, lost control and struck a tree. Due to the accident and Owens' admission to the consumption of alcohol, the officers offered Owens the opportunity to perform a field sobriety test; he refused, according to his arrest report.

Owens was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Citations were issued and he was released with court information.
