Police to Increase Presence Around Joliet Schools for Tonight's Dances
The increase is due to shots being fired after Joliet West's Friday night basketball game.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Township schools will see a heightened police presence during Saturday night’s dances.
Joliet Township District 204 Director of Community Relations Kristine Schlismann said in a release that due to shots being fired after Friday night’s Joliet West basketball game, security measures will be increased in and around the schools.
“This includes the school parking lots as students arrive and leave the dance,” Schlismann said. “Please know that these extra precautions are in place for ease of mind and are not due to any specific elements of the police investigation.”

Dances will be held at both Joliet Central and Joliet West Saturday evening, according to Schlismann.
Schlismann said the district will continue to work with the Joliet Police Department as it continues the investigation.

“Please speak to your child to see if they have any pertinent information about the event or have any information that the school and police need to know while investigating the incident,” Schlismann said.
Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton confirmed Friday night that shots had been fired, but said no arrests were made. Police currently do not have any suspects, either.
