SHOREWOOD, IL — For the first time so far in 2026, the Shorewood Police Department has issued a press release in regard to a high-profile crime in the community. According to Friday's announcement from Police Chief Phil Arnold, the department arrested 19-year-old Ryan Dube and took him to the Will County Jail after he tried to stab the responding police officers sent to his family's house on South Ravinia Drive.

On Thursday afternoon, Chief Arnold noted, the officers responded to a 911 call in the 200 block of South Ravinia in regard to a domestic in progress. Officers arrived in less than two minutes and saw Dube striking and pushing his mother to the ground, then advancing towards her.

With no time to de-escalate, the first officer tackled Dube before he could continue his attack, Arnold noted.

Once on the ground, Dube raised a knife and swung it towards the officer attempting to stab him, according to Shorewood police. The second officer that arrived stopped the knife attack. Further investigation revealed that the attack began in the home, where Dube, according to a witness, slapped and punched his mother in the face and neck while verbally assaulting her, Chief Arnold announced.
