Will County Health Department & Walgreens Teaming to Stub Out Smoking

The health department and certain Walgreens pharmacies — including the one in Shorewood — are providing nicotine gum and patches on the cheap.

The Will County Health Department has teamed up with six Joliet area pharmacies and three Southern Will County locations to supply nicotine replacement therapy to Will County residents wishing to quit smoking for good.

This new program allows smokers, who call the Illinois Tobacco Quitline (1-866-QUIT-YES), the opportunity to receive up to six weeks of either the nicotine gum or nicotine patch from selected Walgreen’s Pharmacy locations in Joliet, Plainfield, Romeoville, New Lenox, Lockport, and Shorewood. Some limitations apply.

County residents who call the Quitline (866-784-8937), can talk confidentially and free of charge to registered nurses, respiratory therapists and addictions specialists who can provide callers with the education and support that is often needed to quit and stay smoke-free.  In conjunction with this telephone-based cessation program, Will County residents who call weekly may qualify to receive nicotine replacement therapy at one of the six selected Walgreens locations.  The Illinois Tobacco Quitline is available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. in more than 150 languages.
