Armed Robbers Take 15 iPads From Store On Dempster: Skokie Crimes

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested. Readers are reminded an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations that are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY
Someone broke a glass door and entered a business in the 7500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 7:45 a.m. Dec. 11.

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone transferred money out of the bank account of a resident in the 9400 block of Lorel Avenue between Nov. 20 and Dec. 9, police were told on Dec. 11.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
Someone used a fraudulent check to withdraw money from the account of resident in the 9700 block of Woods Drive.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked at a bakery in the 4800 block of Washington St between 5:50 and 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 11.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 4200 block of Oakton Street at 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 11, police were told.

ASSAULT/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
The occupants of a car in the 7200 block of Ridgeway Avenue were reportedly assaulted by an unidentified person around 11:20 a.m. on Dec. 6. The car was also damaged. Police were told on Dec. 11.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone broke a side window to a vehicle parked in the 4600 block of Old Orchard Road and stole a radar detector from inside between 7:30 a.m. and 1:06 p.m. on Dec. 11.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Residents of the 8000 block of Kilpatrick Avenue reported that sometime between Dec. 9 and Dec. 11 someone stole the catalytic converter from a vehicle. Catalytic converters were also reported stolen from the 8300 block of Kenneth Avenue and the 8100 block of Kilpatrick on the morning of Dec. 13.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 4600 block of Washington Street between 6:50 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 11 and stole several items from inside while the tenant was out.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
A resident in the 9200 block of Gross Point Road reported on Dec. 12 that they had sent money for a down payment via wire transfer to a purported realtor met on Craigslist.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
A motorist tried to run someone over with a vehicle in the 7000 block of Carpenter Road around 1 p.m. Dec. 13.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a credit card and gift cards from inside a vehilce parked in the 8200 block of Skokie Boulevard between Dec. 7 and Dec. 13.

SHOPLIFTING
Two women tried to steal various items from a store in the 9700 block of Skokie Boulevard between 2:43 and 5:09 p.m. on Dec. 15 by returning them and getting store credit. They were confronted by security and fled the scene. Police provided the following description: "Suspect 1: female, black medium/dark complexion, approximately 5`09", heavy set, and black hair, possibly in her 30`s, wearing a black coat. Possibly missing front teeth and a tattoo on right side of her neck. Suspect 2: female, black, medium/dark complexion, approximately 5`09", possibly in her 30`s, hair in an 'up-do' style, wearing a tan coat."

ARMED ROBBERY
A pair of robbers stole 15 iPads after pushing employees to the ground at a store in the 4900 block of Dempster Street shortly before 9 a.m. on Dec. 16. They fled into a waiting car that was parked on Dempster, turned around at Bronx Avenue and headed west. Police did not say if one or both of the suspects displayed or implied a weapon.

BATTERY/ROBBERY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 9100 block of Bennett Avenue reported being hit and choked by her brother around 11:19 a.m. on Dec. 16. He also damaged her vehicle and stole three gold chains from her, police were told.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 7700 block of Kostner Avenue between 5 and 5:51 p.m. on Dec. 16. It was not immediately known what was stolen.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged decorations around a gravesite in the 9900 block of Gross Point Road between Dec. 15-17, police were told.


ARRESTS

Ronald B. Rivera, 44, of the 7000 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, Lincolnwood, was arrested around 7 p.m. Dec. 11 in the 9300 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Michael Averbukh, 57, of the 2000 block of Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested at 1:09 p.m. Dec. 13 in the parking lot of Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with criminal damage to property.


Andrew Marin Dumitru, 22, of the 2100 block of Chaparral Drive in Snellville, Georgia, and James John Dumitru, 20, of the 3000 block of North California Avenue in Chicago, were arrested shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave., and charged with shoplifting.


Cinnamon J. Vieux, 26, of the 6500 block of North Artesian Avenue, Chicago, was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave., and charged with shoplifting.


Jocelyn Velazquez, 20, of the 800 block of Bliss Street, Belvidere, was arrested at 4:25 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with disorderly conduct.


Meghan L. Zagorski, 28, of the 4500 block of North Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 4:25 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Skokie Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave., and charged with shoplifting.


Brandon Mark Chin, 21, of the 1100 block of Chestnut Street, Deerfield, was arrested at 4:48 p.m. Dec. 15 at Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.


Miguel A. Rosas, 36, of the 6300 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 2:21 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 7200 block of McCormick Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.


Bruce Ricardo Spencer, 30, of the 8400 block of Monticello Avenue, Skokie, was arrested at 10:17 p.m. on Dec. 17 at his home and charged with criminal damage.


Destiny R. Lopez, 19, of the 6000 block of South Rhodes Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 5:09 p.m. on Dec. 18 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with retail theft.


Alazar W. Segid, 45, of the 700 block of South Oakley Boulevard, Chicago, was arrested at 6:01 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the 4300 block of Enfield Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and hit and run.
