Audition for Oakton’s production of 'Trouble in Mind Sept. 21, 22

Actors are needed to bring an award-winning production to life. Open call auditions for Oakton Community College’s staged reading of “Trouble in Mind” are scheduled 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, in Rooms P103-104, at the college’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
The director is seeking roles for: two black females approximately 30-40, one black male approximately 60-80, one black approximately 20-30, one white female approximately 20-30, three white males approximately 20-50 and one white male approximately 70-80. Actors are required to prepare a contemporary monologue (less than two minutes in length) and read from the script. Monologues need not be memorized.
“Trouble in Mind,” by pioneering black playwright Alice Childress, is the first play by a black woman to win an Obie Award (1956) for best original off-Broadway production. The drama explores what occurs when black actors performing in a play about lynching and Southern racism must deal with the condescending attitude of their white male director.

Performances are scheduled 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Oakton’s Skokie campus.
