Christmas 2017: What's Open, What's Closed In Skokie

SKOKIE, IL — The Christmas holiday is fast approaching, and that means people will be out and about shopping, picking out presents and visiting family. While some people — including emergency personnel and employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed.

Here's list of what's open and what's closed in Skokie for Christmas and New Year's 2017.

• Post office: Closed
• Federal offices: Closed
• Banks: Closed
• Gas stations: Open
• Village of Skokie offices: Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
• Refuse Collection: Monday collection on Tuesday, Tuesday collection on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collection unchanged for week of Dec. 25. For week of Jan. 1, Monday collection on Tuesday, Tuesday collection on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collection unchanged.
• Schools: Closed for winter break through Jan. 8.
• Skokie Public Library: Closed on Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. The library will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
• Skatium Ice Arena: Closed Dec. 25, public skating the rest of the week. Open 12:30 to 2 p.m. Dec. 31.
• Old Orchard Shopping Center: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 24. Closed Dec. 25. Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 1-6.
• Retail stores: Some will be closed, some will be open, but check the hours before you go.
