Gun Drawn By Driver During Traffic Dispute: Skokie Blotter

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested and of incidents reported to the police. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Readers are reminded that everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt, and criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 3800 block of Main Street between 5:45 and 7:50 p.m. on March 1. An unknown amount of jewelry was stolen.

ROBBERIES

  • An iPhone was stolen from a person in the 8600 block of Niles Center Road around 1:30 a.m. on March 3. The victim was punched in the face during the incident.
  • A robbery was reported in the 9400 block of Skokie Boulevard around 3:15 p.m. on March 7.
  • Multiple robbers pushed an employee of a pawn shop in the 3500 block of Dempster Street to the ground and stole 12 tennis bracelets valued at between $12,000 and $15,000.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
An aggravated assault was reported in the 4800 block of Oakton Street between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on March 1.

STOLEN CAR
A vehicle was reported stolen from the 5000 block of Carol Street on March 12. Police were told the car was taken March 5 and never returned.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY
An aggravated battery to a senior citizen was reported around 3 p.m. on March 14 in the 8400 block of Karlov Avenue.

SEXUAL ABUSE/ASSAULTS

  • An incident of criminal sexual abuse was reported at a facility for people with special needs in the 3400 block of Howard Street between 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 27 and 4:46 p.m. on March 6.
  • Police were told on March 15 that a 15-year-old girl became pregnant with a 20-year-old boyfriend. Her parents were aware of the relationship and did not wish to press charges.
  • Police were told an incident of criminal sexual abuse involving a known perpetrator took place between 3 and 5 p.m. on March 13.

PUBLIC INDECENCY
A man standing in the 8900 block of Niles Center Road exposed himself to passerby around 11 a.m. on March 14.

SHOT FIRED/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 4600 block of Washington Street reported discovering damage to a tire between 12:45 and 6:17 p.m. on March 16. The resident took the car to a mechanic and discovered that there were bullet fragments in the tire and a hole in the center of the rim. Police said a shell casing was found a few feet from where the vehicle was parked.

MOB ACTION
An attempted strong-arm robbery involving a mob action was reported in the 4900 block of Old Orchard Center shortly before 7:30 p.m. on March 16.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH FIREARM
A driver in the 3300 block of Howard Street reported that another motorist drew a pistol and pointed it at them around 8:30 a.m. on March 18 during a traffic dispute. No further information was immediately available from police.

ARRESTS

Keila S. Williams-Colbert, 38, of the 100 block of West Elm Street, Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on March 1 at the Old Orchard Macy's store and charged with retail theft after hiding multiple items and leaving the store.

Coreneshia Trawick, 25, of the 4800 block of North 71st Street, Milwaukee, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. on March 1 at the Skokie courthouse and charged with battery and retail theft

William J. Yakow, 25, of the 5600 block of North St. Louis, Chicago, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. on March 1 at his home and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Sally B. Petrovic, 44, of the 6200 block of North Hamlin Avenue, Chicago, and Giuliana Gates, 21, of the 6200 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, Chicago, were arrested around 5:30 p.m. on March 2 at the Skokie Walmart and both charged with retail theft.

Julia N. Cejeda Vargas, 26, of the 6400 block of North Claremont Ave., Chicago, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on March 6 at the Skokie Walmart and charged with retail theft.

David Lara-Lopez, 52, of the 6000 block of North Winthrop Street, Chicago, was arrested around 11 a.m. on March 7 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with theft of lost or misplaced property.

Jorde Z. Banks, 18, of the 1900 block of Grey Avenue, Evanston, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on March 8 and charged with obstructing identification and retail theft from the TJ Maxx, 3337 Golf Road.

Omar Campbell, 21, of the 8200 block of East Prairie Road, Skokie, was arrested at his home shortly after 1 p.m. on March 9 and charged with public indecency.

Opeyemi A. Odukoya, 31, of the 4900 block of South Saint Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4 p.m. on March 9 at the Skokie Walmart and charged with retail theft.

Somo J. Somo, 51, of the 8900 block of Lacrosse Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on March 10 and charged with retail theft at the Skokie Walmart.

Jomisha S. Williams, 22, of the 7200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 7 p.m. on March 10 in the 5100 block of Golf Road and charged with retail theft from the Old Orchard Nordstrom store.

Aaron D. Rosenberg, 39, and Nina Newman, 28, both of the 500 block of East 71st Street, Chicago, were arrested at 9:40 p.m. on March 13 and each charged with retail theft from the Walgreens, 9150 Skokie Blvd.

Gofran Aladili, 22, of the 4600 block of South Ashland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. on March 13 and charged with retail theft at the Skokie Walmart.

Devonte June Warrior, 19, of the 5300 block of South Wabash Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. on March 15 at the Skokie courthouse and charged with aggravated battery to a senior citizen and robbery.

Edward L. James, 22, of the 4700 block of Main Street, Skokie, was arrested around 3 a.m. on March 16 in the 7900 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater.

Steven M. Higgins, 59, of the 9000 block of Mansfield Avenue, Morton Grove, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. on March 16 at his home and charged with battery and criminal trespassing.

Mei Y. Chen, 50, of the 300 block of Ridge Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on March 15 and charged with retail theft from the Old Orchard Macy's store.

Dejidmaa Beevlei, 50, of the 1400 block of Sandpebble Drive, Wheeling, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. on March 16 at the Old Orchard shopping center and charged with retail theft.

Mohammad Aqib, 23, of the 8000 block of Keating Avenue, Skokie, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. on March 18 in the 4800 block of Wright Terrace and charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Michael S. Sperekas, 18, of the 4700 block of Davis Street, Skokie, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. on March 19 in the 9000 block of Niles Center Road on an in-state warrant.

Brian K. Spidel, 49, of the 7300 block of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was arrested around 9:50 p.m. on March 19 and charged with retail theft at the Skokie Walmart.

Natalie Memi, 29, of the 8900 block of Lamon Avenue, Skokie, was arrested at 11:34 p.m. on March 19 in the 8800 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended or revoked license and driving with a cancelled or suspended registration.

Tyshawnna L. R. Johnson, 26, of the 2000 block of Jackson Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at 2:46 p.m. on March 20 at the Skokie Police Department on an in-state warrant.

Christopher L. Custodio, 29, of the 7700 block of Lowell Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on March 20 at the Skokie Police Department on an in-state warrant.

Kenneth A. Lapaglia, 59, of the 7800 block of Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, was arrested at 8:20 a.m. on March 21 at his home and charged with felony theft.

Hector Garcia Vazquez, 50, of the 3100 block of West Leland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 8 p.m. on March 21 in the 3400 block of Touhy Avenue on an in-state warrant.
