Gunman Flees; Duo Steals Cat Food, Shoves Cashier At 7-11: Skokie Crime Reports

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested. Readers are reminded an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations that are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
ARMED ROBBERY

Someone walked into the Subway sandwich shop in the 4900 block of Dempster Street between 4:32 and 4:38 a.m. on Sept. 26 and pointed a handgun at an employee. The employee ran to the back of the store and the person with the pistol fled out of the store's south door. Nothing was said and nothing was taken.
STOLEN CAR

A car was stolen in the 5700 block of Old Orchard Road around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.
UNLAWFUL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM, CRIMINAL DAMAGE, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Two homes had bullet holes in them after shots were reportedly fired in the 8400 block of Lawndale Avenue around 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 26.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY
An aggravated battery was reported in the 3200 block of Howard Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26. The offender is known to the victim, according to police reports.
THEFT
Someone stole two 375 ml bottles of Patron Tequila from the CVS pharmacy in the 3400 block of Dempster Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.
THEFT
A man grabbed a carton of cigarettes from the front counter at the 7-Eleven in the 3400 block of Church Street around 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 27 and ran out without paying for them.
BURGLARY
Someone forced their way into a liquor store in the 3500 block of Dempster Street and stole cash from the register around 2:51 a.m. on Sept. 28.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
Someone cashed cashed multiple fake checks at Sherman Dodge in the 7600 block of Skokie Boulevard between 9 a.m. on Sept. 22 and 9 p.m. on Sept. 27.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 9300 block of Kildare Avenue reported that someone broke into their back door while they were away. It was not immediately known what may have been stolen.
ARRESTS
Syeda A. Bukhari, 36, of the 6400 block of North Maplewood Avenue, was arrested Sept. 26 at 7:45 p.m. at Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.




According to police, the two men went into the the 7-Eleven in the 8300 block of Skokie Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. on Sept. 27. Miller reportedly stole cat food and beer cozies, while Renteria pushed the store's cashier before they both fled.
Tai Huu Doan, 20, of the 5000 block of North Hamlin Avenue, was arrested Sept. 28 at 9:13 p.m. at Old Orchard Center and charged with the theft of more than $500 worth of property from Nordstrom reported around 7 p.m. that night.

Alexander Vasquez, 22, of the 2800 block of Rhodes Avenue in Northlake and Rodney Spencer Williams, 28, of the 16700 block of Vintage Street in Northhills, California, were both arrested on Sept. 28 at 4:51 p.m. in the 5000 block of Touhy Avenue and charged with possession of a stolen car. Tawer Gabriel, 26, of the 2300 block of Greenleaf Avenue, was arrested on Sept. 30 at 12:43 a.m. in the 3300 block of Dempster Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Tenzin Sonam, 28, of the 8000 block of Crawford Avenue, was arrested Sept. 30 at 1:43 a.m. in the 4900 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Alberto A. Ato, 73, of the 1300 block of West Touhy Avenue, Chicago, was arrested Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of Lincoln Avenue and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Roberto Chavez Garcia, 33, of the 3800 block of Jerome Street, Skokie, was arrested Oct. 2 at 10:37 p.m. in the 7300 block of Lawndale Avenue and charged with battery and criminal damage to property.
