Skokie crews safely rescued two cats, and investigators are now working to determine what sparked the blaze that disrupted so many neighbors' lives.

• Texas man charged in Oakton Street hit-and-run (evanstonroundtable.com) — A Texas man has been charged after allegedly hitting a woman in a crosswalk on Oakton Street near James Park and then leaving the scene, in a crash that closed the road for hours. Morton Grove police, aided by Skokie officers, later arrested the suspect, who now faces a felony and traffic citations and is due in court at the Skokie Courthouse.

• Piyush Goyal Calls Indian Americans a 'Living Bridge' in Chicago (indiawest.com) — Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal marked Gandhi Jayanti by laying flowers at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Sculpture in Skokie, recognizing the site's symbolic role for the local Indian diaspora. He then addressed Indian Americans in the Chicago area, calling them a "living bridge" between the U.S. and India and emphasizing loyalty to their adopted home while honoring their roots.
