Second Saturday Coffeehouse: Val Leventhal featuring Patrick Reninger
The Second Saturday Coffeehouse welcomes harmonica player Patrick Reninger for an eclectic night of bluesy songs, poetry and humor.

Following the 8 pm open mic (7:30 sign-up, all acoustic, all genres), Saturday June 13th, the Second Saturday Coffeehouse welcomes harmonica player Patrick Reninger for an eclectic night of bluesy songs, poetry and humor. $8 suggested donation includes refreshments.
Jamming in his teens with blues man at the famed Maxwell Street Flea Market on Chicago’s Near West Side, Patrick developed a passion for the blues at a time when the culture of the music was accessible to anyone with a bus transfer and an open mind.
Over the last few decades, Patrick has performed with a variety of blues, country and rock bands in the Chicagoland area. A fiery soloist, Patrick is able to channel his feeling for the blues into everything from a jazz ballad to a country weeper.
Noteworthy gigs include appearances at the House of Blues, Schubas, the Chicago Cultural Center and a performance at the 1997 Chicago Blues Festival with than 81 year old blues pianist, John Campbell.
A published poet with sense of the absurd, Patrick is a regular contributor to the Kentucky literary journal Open 24 Hours and a two time semi-finalist at the Green Mill Poetry Slam. Tonight’s performance will include a few selected readings.
Accompanying Patrick, will be singer/songwriter Val Leventhal. Performing regularly in the Chicago area since 1973, Val is a powerful vocalist and songwriter with a keen ear for a well turned phrase and rich palette of rhythms. Val’s debut release “Roots and Flowers” captures the essence of her talent, interweaving a bold mixture of country ballads, folk, reggae, up-tempo rock and blues.
