Sexual Assault Charge For Man Arrested At Courthouse: Blotter

Two men charged with identity theft and two teens accused of shoplifting on the Skokie Police Department blotter from Sept. 5 to Sept. 17

SKOKIE, IL — The following information comes from the Skokie Police Department as a record of those recently arrested and of incidents reported to the police. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Readers are reminded that everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt, and criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS

'RUSE' BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A man offering to "resurface the driveway for free" led a homeowner in the 5000 block of Williamsburg Road into his backyard, leaving the front door unlocked during the afternoon of Aug. 30. No items were reported stolen at the time at the time of the Sept. 2 report.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE/DISORDERLY
Police were told on Sept. 5 that a person known to police showed up at a house in the 4400 block of Main Street between 8:30 and 9 p.m. on Aug. 30, started to argue and threw a glass.

IRS SCAM
A Frontage Road resident reported on the morning of Sept. 5 that a fake IRS collector had attempted a form of deceptive practices.

BATTERY
A battery at Lincoln Junior High around 3 p.m. on Sept. 7 was reported over girls fighting in the school hallway.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
During an argument over child custody, one person struck a domestic partner multiple times around 8:11 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the 7100 block of Carpenter Road.

THEFT
Sometime between 1 and 3 p.m. on Sept. 10, someone stole construction equipment, including a camera and a monitor, from the 9500 block of Monticello Avenue.

ASSAULT/BATTERY
Police said an argument about wages paid with a bounced check and a threat to an employer reported at 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 13 was a civil matter.

SEXUAL ASSAULT
A sexual assault by family members that reportedly occurred between 2002 and 2008 in the 7700 block of East Prairie Road was reported on the afternoon of Sept. 15.

ARRESTS

Muhammad U. Khan, 27, of the 8500 block of Skokie Boulevard in Skokie, was arrested at 6:31 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the 4900 block of Searle Parkway and charged with battery.

Craig L. Brock, 31, of the 36400 block of Highway 45 in Lake Villa was taken into custody at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the Lake County Jail on an in-state warrant. He was also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license.

Jorge H. Pesce, 25, of the 1400 block of North 1st Avenue in Melrose Park, was arrested at 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.

Jose A. Pena, 24, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 in the 4300 block of Oakton Street and charged with endangering the life or health of a child. He was also ticketed for speeding 26 to 34 mph over the limit.

Oscar R. Rodriguez, 41, of the 3700 block of St. Louis Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 1:44 a.m. on Sept. 10 in the 4700 block of Church Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Judy Glatz, 45, of the 9700 block of Bianco Terrace in Des Plaines, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 10 in the 4800 block of Dempster Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Fabio Ortega, 72, of the 2900 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. on Sept. 10 at the Skokie Courthouse and charged with criminal sexual assault in connection with a 2017 incident. Records indicate he posted $15,000 as the cash portion of his bail and was released ahead of an Oct. 16 court date.

Joseph G. De La Cruz, 47, of the 4100 block of Emma Parkway in Lima, Ohio, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Walmart, 3625 Touhy Ave., and charged with criminal trespassing.

Hanna S. Ayele, 45, of the 9000 block of Niles Center Road in Skokie, was arrested at 1:24 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the 8600 block of McCormick Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Valerie Ross, 37, of the 8100 block of Tripp Avenue, was arrested at 5:05 p.m. on Sept. 11 at her home on a Skokie warrant issued in April for forfeiting bond after failing to appear in court. At the time, she was also found to be in violation of an active order of protection and charged with both offenses.

Bianca M. Toledo, 28, of the 9100 block of Forestview Road in Skokie, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the 5100 block of Main Street and charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Johnny Ramirez, 23, of the 700 block of Dobston Street in Evanston, was arrested shortly before 4 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 2000 block of Oakton Street and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above.

Keith R. Taylor, 60, of the 1700 block of West 105th Place in Chicago, and Larry D. McDaniel, 35, of the 300 block of South Kostner Avenue in Chicago, were arrested at before 5 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the 7600 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with identity theft. Taylor was also charged with felony possession of a fraudulent ID card and forgery.

Douglas S. Kostanski, 47, of the 2400 block of West Jarvis Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 12:36 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the Walmart, 3626 Touhy Ave. and charged with retail theft.

Nathaniel A. Brown, 21, of the 8800 block of Bennett Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Skokie Police Department and charged with criminal damage to property.

Salvador Tafolla, 51, of the 3600 block of West 64th Street in Chicago, was arrested at 7:42 a.m. on Sept. 14 in the 9900 block of the northbound Edens Expressway on an in-state warrant. He was also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Bria D. Smith, 21, of the 800 block of East 90th Place in Chicago, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Old Orchard Shopping Center and charged with retail theft.

Samantha Herrera-Barrera, 19, of the 2700 block of South Millard Avenue in Chicago, and Yazmin M. Mendoza, 19, of the 5100 block of West Chicago Avenue in Chicago, were arrested between 7:30 and 10 p.m. on Sept 17 at the Walgreens at 9150 Skokie Blvd. and charged with retail theft.
