WHAT: Celebrate the food, music, traditions and culture of the five Nordic countries at the 46th Annual Scandinavian Day Festival, returning to Vasa Park in South Elgin on Sunday, September 13.
Considered Illinois’ most unique Scandinavian celebration, the family-friendly festival brings the heritage of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden together for one colorful day of Nordic culture. Each year, people from across Chicagoland come out to experience the traditions, flavors and festivities.
Guests can enjoy traditional Scandinavian foods including Swedish meatballs, fried herring, pølse, kringle and æbleskiver; traditional folk dancers and live entertainment; Scandinavian artisans and vendors; cultural organizations; and living history experiences—including the chance to meet and interact with Vikings.
Families can also enjoy complimentary children’s activities including pony rides, face painting, crafts and the park’s playground.

St Charles History Museum & The Curious Fox Gift Shop

The St. Charles History Museum invites the community to step inside some of the city’s most treasured historic homes during its 2026 Historic Home Tour – Pottawatomie Park Edition.
This year’s tour celebrates not only the beauty and craftsmanship of five remarkable historic homes, but also the homeowners who have chosen to preserve them for future generations.
“Every historic house has two stories,” said Pat Pretz, tour coordinator. “One is the story of its architecture and the era that produced it. The other belongs to the people who have lived there over the years—and to the homeowners who continue to care for these remarkable places today.”
Historic homes represent far more than attractive architecture. They are places where generations of families have celebrated milestones, built memories, and contributed to the history of St. Charles. Today’s owners have embraced the role of caretakers, investing countless hours restoring original features, researching the history of their homes, and preserving the character that makes these landmarks unique.
The 2026 Historic Home Tour will feature five officially designated St. Charles landmarks located in and around the Pottawatomie Park neighborhood:
·Sinton-Anderson House (1924) – A Colonial Revival home once owned by paddlewheel riverboat entrepreneur Richard Anderson.
·Joel H. Hulburd House (1854) – The oldest home on this year’s tour and the only one listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
·Locke-Marchialette House (1898) – A beautiful Queen Anne residence with fascinating stories connecting both past and present owners.
·Saxony-Terrace Home (1913) – A Prairie Style home associated with the Norris family, whose philanthropy helped shape modern St. Charles.
·McCornack House (c. 1931) – Built by the family behind the McCornack Oil Company, whose former headquarters is now home to the St. Charles History Museum.
Visitors will experience distinctive architectural styles, learn about the families who built and occupied these homes, and gain a deeper appreciation for the homeowners whose commitment ensures these important pieces of St. Charles history continue to thrive.
Opening private homes to the public requires significant preparation and generosity. Participating homeowners have volunteered to share their homes because they believe preserving local history is a community effort and that these stories deserve to be shared.
Whether you’re a longtime resident, a newcomer, or simply someone who appreciates history and architecture, the Historic Home Tour offers a unique opportunity to experience St. Charles through the places—and the people—that have shaped its story.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's Fox Valley event is a free community gathering that brings together families, caregivers, advocates, and supporters impacted by Alzheimer's and other dementia. While fundraising is greatly appreciated and helps fund 24/7 support, education programs, support groups, advocacy efforts, and groundbreaking research, there is no cost to participate.

The event opens to the public at 8:30 a.m., featuring a variety of activities and resources, including a Fun Zone for kids and families, Tribute Wall, Promise Garden experience with a complimentary pinwheel flower for every registered participant, refreshments, Pet Zone for leashed dogs, Caregiver Corner, Champions Club, and Team Photo Area.
The Opening Ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the non-competitive walk at 10:00 a.m. Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join. Whether you're honoring a loved one, supporting a caregiver, or helping advance the fight against Alzheimer's, this is an opportunity to come together, find support, and make a meaningful impact.
