CHICAGO - An 89-year-old woman was killed and a 39-year-old woman seriously wounded before a SWAT standoff on the South Side of Chicago that lasted for hours. Chicago police say a 19-year-old man is in custody after the situation that unfolded early Monday morning in the 7000 block of South Prairie Avenue.
Police responded to an apartment on the block around 1:30 a.m., when they found the 39-year-old in the stairwell with a gunshot wound to the face. At the time, the man barricaded himself in a second floor apartment. The victim told police that the barricaded man had fired several shots inside the building.
