The mother and the baby's father are in critical condition after the couple was shot Monday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

CHICAGO — Mother and newborn baby are recovering after the woman was shot in the stomach and gave birth Monday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Crystal Myers, 23, and Albert Moore, 24, her boyfriend, were still in critical condition Tuesday at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, the report stated. Moore, who also is the baby's father, was shot in the neck, the report added.
Family members told the Sun-Times that the baby, who was nearly full term at the time of delivery, was doing fine. Myers was due Sept. 30.

The gunman snuck up on the couple while they were on the porch at a house in the 5200 block of Sangamon Street where Myers and Moore lived with Moore's grandparent, the Sun-Times report. The attacker then fired nine shots before leaving the scene, the report added. All other people were on the porch, no one else was hurt.

As of Tuesday, police had made no arrests and were checking to see if this incident was related to a fatal shooting Sunday that occurred less than a block away, the report stated.
Myers and Moore had planned to move to Iowa this month because they were worried about the increasing violence where they lived, the report added.
