Cardinal Cupich Leads Good Friday Peace Walk Through Englewood

Hundreds join Cardinal Cupich for Good Friday peace march through Englewood to remember the lives lost to violence in Chicago this year.

CHICAGO, IL -- Hundreds of people joined Cardinal Blase Cupich in a Good Friday peace walk through one of Chicago’s most violence-plagued neighborhoods. The cardinal led the marchers through Englewood by tracing the Stations of the Cross.

The peace walk began around 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict the African Church on West 66th Street and South Stewart Avenue on the city’s South Side. The walk was open to the public and drew 1,500 participants.

Hundreds walked through the streets singing and praying. Along the way the group paused to read the names of lives lost to violence in Chicago this year. Cardinal Cupich was joined by civic, education and religious leaders. The cardinal invited individuals and families directly affected by the violence in Chicago, Archdiocesan parishioners, police officers, health professionals and fire officials.
