Chicago Police Officer Shot At 87th And Paulina
A Chicago police officer was hit in the vest Tuesday morning near 87th and Paulina.

CHICAGO - A Chicago police officer was shot near 87th and Paulina on the South Side Tuesday morning at 10:57 a.m., Chicago police said in a preliminary statement. Chicago Police Department Public Information Officer A.J. Guglielmi earlier confirmed the incident, in which a 6th District police officer was hit in the vest after making a traffic stop just a few blocks east of the North Beverly neighborhood.
Police officers returned fire, according to Guglielmi. A Chicago police media report indicates the accused shooter was hit in the upper body after allegedly fleeing from during the traffic stop near 87th and Ashland.
Both the police officer and suspect were taken to hospitals in the near suburbs. The officer is at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park.

The officer was listed in stable condition as of 1:45 p.m. The accused shooter, who was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, was in critical to serious condition around the same time.

Tuesday morning's exchange of gunfire is the second incident over the last 24 hours in which a Chicago police officer had been shot. Just a day ago, Chicago police officer Samuel Jimenez was fatally shot while exchanging gunfire with a man who killed him and two others at Mercy Hospital.
