Female CPD Officer Who Died On Duty Identified

Officer Vinita Williams fell unresponsive and died while working at the 5th District station Tuesday morning.

CHICAGO, IL - A Chicago police officer who collapsed and died at a station on the South Side early Tuesday has been identified by authorities. According to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, 47-year-old Vinita Williams was found unconscious about 4:15 a.m. at the station, 727 E. 111th Street, the same location where another officer was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound just days earlier, Sun-Times reported.

Officer Williams was pronounced dead shortly after at Advocate Trinity Hospital.

It wasn't immediately known what caused the female officer's death, which comes just two days after the death of Brandon Krueger, a 36-year-old Chicago police officer and Marine Corps veteran who is believed to have taken his own life while inside his squad car in the parking lot of the same station.
