Family Starts GoFundMe For Off-Duty CPD Officer Killed In Crash

CHICAGO — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for off-duty Chicago police officer Timothy Siwula, 34, who died early Saturday morning following a crash in Tinley Park.

Siwula was assigned to the 9th Chicago Police District, said a family member, Kevin Siwula, who is organizing the campaign. Funds raised will go toward funeral costs.

“He was a great leader, a great police officer, and an even better friend,” Kevin Siwula said.

In the comment section of the GoFundMe campaign, classmates from his recruit class at the Chicago Police Academy said Siwula was destined to become a great police officer. An academy instructor called Siwula “one of my best trainees and an even better friend.”

Although he had been with the Chicago Police Department for a short time, his sergeant described Siwula as “meticulous” in his report writing who needed very little direction in the field.”

“I heckle my Officers every night before they go home, telling them to be safe in their travels as well as a joke or two. Tim took it in great stride, very professional with a great sense of humor. What was there not to like about Tim? Just a great all around guy, Godspeed Officer Siwula your Sergeant is going to miss you a lot.”

Over $5,000 has been raised toward a goal of $10,000, as of Monday morning. To help out the family with covering funeral costs, donations can be made to the Police Officer Timothy Siwula fund on GoFundMe.
