Gang Member Shot To Death While Driving Near Midway Airport

A crash on 55th Street was caused by a shooting that killed the driver.

CHICAGO, IL - A man driving a vehicle on 55th Street near Midway Airport Monday night was killed after he crashed into two buildings. Chicago police investigated further and found that the man was shot in the head, which caused the crash. He was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A 33-year-old Hispanic man was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed in the 4400 block of West 55th Street in the city's West Elsdon neighborhood, just a few blocks east of Midway, around 10:42 p.m. when he lost control of the car crashed into a pair of buildings.

He was initially taken to Christ in critical condition before he died. No one else was injured in the crash.

The man, who police say was a documented gang member, was not immediately identified.

The Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents division is investigating.
