Pit Bull Hit With Shovel During Attack On 2 Women

Chicago police say a pit bull attacked two women in the Burnside neighborhood Wednesday night.

CHICAGO, IL - A Burnside neighborhood resident stopped a pit bull's attack on two women Wednesday night by hitting the dog with a shovel, police said in a report released early Thursday. Chicago police responded to the 9100 block of South Woodlawn at 7:49 p.m., when they found two victims: a 67-year-old woman and 46-year-old woman.

"A resident from the neighborhood struck the dog with a shovel allowing the victims to seek shelter," according to the report.

Both victims were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The dog was located and secured by police and Animal Control.
