South Suburbs Are Most Stressed Out Places in Illinois

Study by Zippia shows most stressed out places in Illinois.

Chicago’s south suburbs can’t be topped when it comes to its blue-collar work ethic.

But with that also comes the stress, and according to one recent study, the region is tops when it comes to that as well.

Career expert website Zippia recently looked at 340 cities, villages and towns in Illinois and ranked them on the stress factor.

That means a study based on factors such as hours worked, unemployment rate, percentage of population with a long commute and percentage of income spent on rent.

Dolton was the most stressed out place in Illinois according to the study. Seven of the top ten are south suburbs, including Posen, Calumet Park, Hazel Crest, Calumet City, South Holland and Blue Island.

Chicago itself was 10th.

The only non south suburban towns to make the top ten were Cicero and Maywood, which are still part of Cook County.

Much of the towns ranked from 11-20 on the list were also south suburbs.

On the other end of the spectrum, downstate Carterville was found to be the least stressed out place in the state.
