Taco Vendor Shot In Back Of The Yards

A man shot a taco vendor at 48th and Throop after attempting to rob him.

CHICAGO, IL - A taco vendor whose often seen in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood was the victim of daylight gunfire on Monday. Jose Gomez was the victim of a shooting just before noon on Monday in the 4800 block of South Throop Street, according to an ABC-7 report. Gomez loads his taco truck, called Taco Mobil, in the alley behind 48th and Throop every morning.

A Chicago police report indicates Gomez, a 34-year-old, was robbed at gunpoint of his money. The offender, described as a black man in his 20's wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and braids, demanded money from Gomez before shooting him twice.

Gomez suffered wounds to his left arm and back. He was originally listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

Witnesses said the suspect escaped on a green bicycle, according to ABC.
