The city reached a milestone on Tuesday when a home on Honore met the wrecking ball.

CHICAGO, IL - A West Englewood home that was demolished on Tuesday marked the 100th city structure to meet the wrecking ball since a fast-track demolition plan was adopted by the city in February.

The vacant building at 6447 S. Honore is now demolished, according to the Mayor’s Office.

“Demolishing these dangerous buildings helps prevent illegal activity and removes eyesores that impact entire neighborhoods,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said. “This program is another example of our commitment to using every tool available to bring safety to every neighborhood across Chicago.”

The city’s Buildings Department began the fast-track demolition plan in February as an attempt to create safer neighborhoods and limit illegal activity.
