Woman Found Dead In South Side Apartment Fire

Fire officials say a 38-year-old woman who was found in a second-floor bedroom is the victim of a homicide.

CHICAGO, IL - A woman's body was found in a second-floor bedroom of an apartment that caught fire on Chicago's South Side just after midnight. The victim, a 38-year-old African-American who has not yet been identified, is the victim of a homicide according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

The case, which originally called for fire and police units to respond at 12:08 a.m., was turned over to the Chicago Police Department after it was determined that a homicide had taken place. Area detectives continue to investigate.
