1. I Bowl brings hot pot back to Springfield (lincolncourier.com) — Springfield diners have a new option with I Bowl now open on Lindbergh Boulevard, serving hot pot, Cajun boils, Korean BBQ, and bubble tea seven days a week. The owners say they're thrilled to revive hot pot locally after the previous restaurant at this location closed, and they're operating 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily while planning a future grand opening.
   

2. Dispose of hazardous waste properly (illinoistimes.com) — Springfield residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste at a voucher-only collection event on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Chamberlain Park, but you must reserve a voucher in advance through the city's Public Works website. The program is free for Illinois households, with timed entry, strict voucher checks at the gate, and clear traffic directions to keep the drop-off running smoothly.
   

3. CWLP Begins Planning for Springfield's Energy Future With New Integrated Resource Plan (springfieldherald.news) — Springfield's city-owned utility CWLP is launching a new long-term Integrated Resource Plan that will shape how your electricity is generated, how reliable it is, and what it may cost over the next 5 to 20 years. Officials are hiring a consultant now and promise multiple public meetings so residents can weigh in on options like solar, existing plants, and other future power sources.
   

4. 10 local organizations receive AEDs (wandtv.com) — Springfield-area organizations, including a local church and Mary Bryant Home, just received new automated external defibrillators through HSHS St. John's Foundation's Community AED Program, boosting emergency preparedness close to home. The devices come with CPR-guiding technology plus training from MedicsFirst, and local groups can still apply online to be considered for future AED donations.
   

5. Bus Stop bar back on track after flooding (illinoistimes.com) — A new downtown Springfield bar, The Bus Stop, is bouncing back after a water‑main break flooded its original Monroe Street location the night before its planned August opening. Owners have shifted across the street into a larger former Gin Mill space and, with strong community support, expect to open before Halloween with the same drinks, theme nights, and expanded games.
