1. New hibachi restaurant on north end (springfieldbusinessjournal.com) — A new Hibachi & Wok Cuisine restaurant is set to open at 1712 E. Sangamon Avenue on Springfield's north end, with plans to be operating by the holiday season. The Springfield City Council has already approved the project, and the spot replaces a closed Papa Murphy's, which now has just one remaining Springfield location on Chatham Road.
   

2. Springfield-area groups receive donated AED's (capitolcitynow.com) — Newly donated automated external defibrillators are now installed in ten Springfield-area churches and community organizations, expanding access to life-saving equipment if someone goes into cardiac arrest. Local health leaders stress that residents also need better education about blood pressure, cholesterol, diet, and how to respond while waiting for 9-1-1 crews to arrive.
   

3. Comedian Charlie Berens to bring tour to Springfield, Effingham (wandtv.com) — Springfield comedy fans can catch Charlie Berens' "The Lost & Found" tour at the UIS Performing Arts Center on February 7, 2027, with tickets available online. The viral Manitowoc Minute creator and Midwest Survival Guide author is adding Springfield and Effingham to an expanded tour, bringing his small-town humor and podcast fame to central Illinois stages.
   

4. Efe-Nogo, Springfield High win City opener (sj-r.com) — Springfield sports fans get a full rundown of standout high school performances, led by Springfield High's City Tournament-opening volleyball win behind Angel Efe-Nogo. The roundup also spotlights Williamsville, Pleasant Plains, Rochester, Riverton and other nearby schools in volleyball, soccer and golf, with details on key stats and conference championships.
   

5. Cities with the fastest-growing home prices in the Springfield, Illinois metro area (collinsvilledailynews.com) — Home values across the Springfield metro area have continued climbing, with many cities seeing double-digit one-year price gains despite higher mortgage rates.
