74-Year-Old Man Crashes Home-Built Plane, Survives

It was an experimental plane he was working on. An issue with lighting caused him to crash, but he was able to get away uninjured.

PLATO TOWNSHIP, IL — A 74-year-old St. Charles man survived a plane crash Saturday after a failed attempt to safely land his experimental home built aircraft, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

David Weaver of St. Charles attempted to land his Pulsar 912XP at the Olson Airport around 5 p.m. Saturday. As he was about to land, Weaver advised there was an issue with the lighting, "causing him to misjudge his approach," the press release said.

The plane crashed through a wooden fence surrounding a horse pasture and finally came to a rest in the pasture, just southeast of the landing strip, on Kendall Road.
