Obituary for Mary F. Kearbey

Mary F. Kearbey age 78, of Elburn, was called to her
heavenly home while surrounded by her loving family, on February 28, 2013. She was born July 5, 1934 to Peter and Isabelle Roman in Big Four, West Virginia.

Born Mary Frances Roman, during her first 12 years of life she experienced numerous challenges not deserving to any young child.  At age 7 Mary lost her mother and soon after at age 12 she lost her father to medical complication due to injuries received while serving in the Army.  Over the next 2 years she bounced from family to family until she settled in with her Aunt Ellie Crigger.  Mary loved her Aunt Ellie, and Aunt Ellie became the mother she really needed.

Mary’s first real job was at the Streamline Grill in Blue Field, West Virginia where she worked over the next 6 years. The Owner of the Streamline Grill was known for sponsoring many of the top entertainers in the 1950s, and Mary shared her memories of meeting numerous
entertainers including Fats Domino and Little Richard.

Mary moved to Illinois and married James Sanford Kearbey in 1959. Mary worked at the Howel Company and Dickey Manufacturing in St. Charles until she retired at age 65.
After enjoying retirement for 5 years she missed the social interaction that work offered so she went back to work at Delnor Hospital where she worked in the food service until she could no longer work due to her illness.

Bodies of water always brought Mary a sense of peace.  Mary’s favorite hobby was fishing and taking trips to the Mississippi River.  Mary said it did not matter if the fish were biting as long as she could sit in the boat, relax, and watch the water.

Mary is survived by her children, Cathy (Kevin) Knight, James (Lisa) Kearbey, Thomas (Jodi) Kearbey, 10
grandchildren, Natasha, Anthony, Courtney, Caitlyn, Lauren, Thomas, Stephanie, Bradford, Lindsey and Reese, 1 great-grandchild Clifford, and her brother Peter
