Flyer Opposing Car Wash Sent to St. Charles Residents

Despite opposition from the mystery sender, city officials are moving forward with the West Main Street car wash.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- City officials are on board, so far, with replacing an old car wash on West Main Street with a new and improved car wash -- even after a mystery flyer was sent out to area residents decrying the development. Extreme Clean Express Car Wash operator Dan Gunsteen of Bartlett is proposing tearing down the former Main Street Wash, at 1625 W. Main Street, and building a new automatic car wash with a single service bay, 22 vacuum stalls and stacking lanes with a pay station, according to the Daily Herald.

But the development has a mystery opponent or opponents. Aldermen have been receiving e-mails and phone calls from residents who say they've received a laminated mailer, which called on residents to oppose the car wash citing concerns over traffic congestion and since it would not generate enough in sales taxes, according to the Daily Herald.

Despite that, alderman acting as the planning and development committee OK'd special use for the car wash. Next up, the city council will give the final vote on the project.

And as for those who received the flyer, city officials said most were annoyed about getting a mailer from an anonymous source but said they were in favor of the car wash.
