Knife-Wielding Man Who Threatened Cops Is Charged With Attempted Murder: Authorities
The homeless man now faces several charges in Kane County Circuit Court.
ST. CHARLES, IL — Police in St. Charles arrested a man late Friday after he reportedly ran into traffic and threatened officers with a knife, authorities said.
Licurgo Diazsandi, 23, of St. Charles, has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of armed violence, attempt to disarm a peace officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer with a weapon, criminal damage to government property and resisting a police officer, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Officers were called to the area of East Main Street and Hunt Club Drive around 11:34 p.m. Friday for reports of a person running in and out of traffic, according to a news release from police.

When officers arrived, Diazsandi is accused of brandishing a knife and charging at them. One officer deployed a Taser, and another fired a service weapon, though no one was struck, according to authorities.
Diazsandi was taken into custody and treated at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital before being released back into police custody. One officer was also taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Diazsandi was taken to the Kane County Jail for a conditions and detention hearing, where he remains in custody.
