ST. CHARLES, IL — A 42-year-old St. Charles Township man convicted in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 7-year-old girl out riding her bike on Mother's Day has been sentenced to six years in prison, authorities said Wednesday. Brian J. Quartuccio, of the 35W block of Oak Drive, entered a guilty plea to a charge of failure to report an accident or injury and driving with a revoked license in October.

Kane County Judge Donald Tegeler Jr. sentenced Quartuccio, who at the time of the May offense was on probation in connection with two sentences for a prior felony offense for driving while license revoked, this past week, according to prosecutors. In total, Quartuccio has been found guilty seven times for driving while license revoked and three times for driving while under the influence.

The most recent offense "nearly cost a little girl her life," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said following Quartuccio's sentencing.

At about 1 p.m. on May 12, Quartuccio was driving a 2003 black Dodge Ram pickup truck south on Illinois Avenue in the Valley View portion of unincorporated St. Charles when he struck a 7-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. At the time, Quartuccio was not supposed to be driving his vehicle since his driver's license had been revoked due to a DUI offense.

"Mr. Quartuccio has made a habit of ignoring the law and doing as he pleases," McMahon said. "His selfishness nearly cost a little girl her life this time. I hope he understand that it's time for him to grow up."

He then fled the scene and did not report the crash to authorities, police said.

Lexi Hanson, the 7-year-old girl hit by the truck, was initially taken to the hospital with critical injuries. She suffered a spinal injury, several broken bones and bruises, according to information posted on a GoFundMe set up to raise money for her medical bills.

She was later released from the hospital.
