Man Who Pointed Gun At Walmart Says He May Have 'Blacked Out'

The St. Charles man told authorities he drank and took medication beforehand and does not recall the incident.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A 61-year-old St. Charles man accused of pointing a gun at a woman outside Walmart says he may have blacked out after drinking at a party on Halloween and then taking medication, the Kane County Chronicle reports. Frederick J. Murphy, of the 1400 block of E. Main Street, left the Walmart following the incident at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 31 and was later arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.

According to a case report obtained by the Kane County Chronicle through a Freedom of Information request, the woman told police a man walked up to her while she was exiting the Walmart, 150 Smith Road, and said,"Can I ask you something?" before pointing s a black 1911 style BB gun with a replica "silencer" at her. The woman, who didn't know what type of gun it was, feared for her life and ran back into the store, according to the article.

Murphy says he does not remember anything about the incident, according to the report. No one was injured in the incident.

A city of St. Charles employee ended up identifying Murphy after police released a photo to the media of the suspect, according to the article. The city employee said he'd recognized Murphy who stopped into city hall on Nov. 1 to make a payment.
