Union Pacific continues lead cleanup from bridge near Fox River in St. Charles (shawlocal.com) — Union Pacific is continuing cleanup and repainting of its old railroad bridge in St. Charles after residents reported lead-based paint flakes entering a culvert that drains to the Fox River. City officials say fallen chips have been vacuumed up, more work this fall and in spring 2027 may temporarily close parts of North Second Street and the Great Western Trail Bridge, and the city is also replacing thousands of lead service lines.

Kane County Judicial Center Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month (kanecountyconnects.com) — Staff at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles recently marked Hispanic Heritage Month with an inaugural celebration highlighting Hispanic judges and employees serving local residents. Judges shared how their backgrounds help them better understand the diverse communities coming through St. Charles courtrooms, in a county where more than a third of residents identify as Hispanic or Latino.

St. Charles North, on last-minute TD pass, rallies past Glenbard North: Kane County Chronicle football roundup (shawlocal.com) — St. Charles North football fans saw a thrilling finish as the North Stars edged Glenbard North 33-32 on a last-minute 56-yard touchdown pass in Carol Stream. Now 4-4 overall, St. Charles North will host Lake Park in Week 9, while several other Kane County and nearby schools also wrapped up key late-season matchups.

4. 26-year-old South Elgin man killed in motorcycle crash in South Elgin; driver of Mercedes sedan cited (shawlocal.com) — St. Charles residents may want to know that local police helped investigate a fatal Oct. 7 motorcycle–car crash in nearby South Elgin that closed Randall Road for more than five hours. A 26-year-old South Elgin man died at the scene, and investigators are still seeking witnesses as they piece together what happened at Randall Road and Thornwood Avenue.
