Feds, State Fire Marshal To Help With Pheasant Run Fire Probe

An investigation into the weekend fire at the former resort is expected to last several weeks.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A full investigation into the cause of a massive blaze at the former Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles is underway.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Office of the Illinois State Marshal are assisting the St. Charles police and fire departments in the probe, which is expected to take several weeks, according to a statement Monday afternoon from the city of St. Charles.

Fire departments from across the region assisted at the scene of the blaze, which broke out at about 4:40 p.m. Saturday and burned for hours. As of Monday afternoon, one fire unit from the St. Charles Fire Department remained at the former resort, located at 4051 E. Main Street in St. Charles, and worked to control a few remaining hot spots.

The main lobby and three wings of hotel rooms have been destroyed by the blaze, fire officials said late Monday afternoon.

Firefighters first at the scene of the fire Saturday afternoon worked "to cut off the spread of the fires in every direction," according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Department. The blaze was contained to the center structures of the resort and was reportedly extinguished as of Sunday evening, according to fire officials.

On Sunday night, firefighters remained at the scene to put out several hot spots. No one was injured in the fire, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The resort has been closed since early 2020.
