Radium Removal Moves Toward Completion; Gas Prices Tumble in St. Charles
Motorists in St. Charles should be alert for new construction-related traffic patterns.

The Radium Removal Project which started more than a year ago is nearing completion, according to the city. The treatment equipment manufacturer will be on site next week to perform startup and training procedures for the facility. A website with webcam views and images of the progress is available.

- Sanitary sewer construction will continue down the middle of Main Street going east. Work has now moved to the east side of North 13th Avenue. The ongoing project has shifted the parkway on the north side of Main Street and will require drivers to comply with new traffic patterns and lane configurations. In anticipation of these changes, motorists are asked to help alleviate traffic congestion by finding alternate routes through St. Charles.
- Surface paving and asphalt driveway aprons are scheduled to be finished along Indiana Street this week. Binder pavement is should also start this week on Stirrup Cup Court, Banbury, Independence and Andover avenues. Landscaping and restoration will follow. Residents should expect minor traffic delays, no parking in construction zones and temporary road closings.
- Geotechnical investigation will reduce traffic to one lane on LaFox Road over Mill Creek between Campton Hills Road and Route 38. Borings and soil samples will be taken during the weeks of Sept. 19 and 26. The has advised drivers to find alternate routes due to excessive travel times through the area.
