One Dead in Two-Car Crash on I-88 Near North Aurora

An Aurora man was killed in the crash Wednesday morning.

A 65-year-old Aurora man was killed in a crash on I-88 near North Aurora Wednesday morning.

Walter P. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on westbound I-88. Police said the crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. when Smith was driving his 1991 Jeep in the center lane and changed lanes, colliding with the rear passenger side of a 2012 Toyota in the left lane.

The Jeep overturned. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to an Illinois State Police press release.

The driver in the Toyota was a 24-year-old Naperville man. Police did not release the name or condition of the driver. 

The crash remains under investigation.
