Sleepy Hollow Attacker Stabbed Inmate With Pencil: Police
Fabian Torres, who is accused of sexually assaulting and attacking his neighbor last month, now faces more charges in the jail attack.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, IL — A Sleepy Hollow man accused of sexually assaulting his 19-year-old neighbor in a planned attack on his 32nd birthday now faces additional charges after he allegedly stabbed an inmate at the Kane County Correctional Facility with a pencil. Two counts of aggravated battery in a public place were filed against Fabian J. Torres, 32, of the 900 block of Saratoga Parkway, earlier this month in Kane County. The new charges stem from a May 1 incident in which authorities say Torres got into a fight with another detainee and stabbed the inmate with a pencil, Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler told Patch in an email.
The inmate suffered minor injuries in the attack and was treated at the jail, Gengler said. Torres is being held without bond at the correctional facility on rape, home invasion and attempted murder charges stemming from the April 8 attack of his 19-year-old neighbor and her 17-year-old brother.
More disturbing details in that case were released last week after Sleepy Hollow police unsealed a search warrant against Torres. The warrant was included in Torres' court records in Kane County, according to a May 17 Daily Herald article, and shows police believe Torres snorted a line of cocaine before heading over to his neighbors' house on April 8 — his 32nd birthday — entering through the unlocked front door at about 12:35 p.m.

Police say he forced the 17-year-old brother to sit in the corner of a first-floor room and ordered the 19-year-old woman to undress and perform a sex act on him, according to the article. During the sexual assault, police said the woman was able to grab a knife and a fight ensued between Torres and the teens before the woman was able to get away and run to a neighbor's house.
The police affidavit states the younger brother then got a loaded shotgun from his father's room and attempted to shoot Torres as he came at him with a knife, but the gun did not fire, according to the Daily Herald.

The brother was able to escape the home but suffered stab wounds to his face, head and chest. The woman was stabbed in her hands and calf, prosecutors said.
Torres' entry into the Sleepy Hollow home was video recorded through the use of an electronic doorbell device, according to a Kane County State's Attorney's Office news release.
In addition to a knife, which had a blade longer than three inches, Torres also brought a black bag that contained rope, heavy-duty duct tape, pepper spray, bear repellent, Extenze Male Enhancement supplements and a penile pump, according to a news release. Police said he purchased the bear repellent, pepper spray and rope from Menards and Fleet Farm on the morning of the attack, according to the Daily Herald.
Prosecutors said Torres met his 19-year-old neighbor the weekend before the attack and planned to kidnap her.
Following the attack, prosecutors say Torres fled the home with a large knife in his right hand, leaving behind his black bag, cell phone and wallet, which included his identification. Torres, while armed with two knives, then forced his way into another home in the same neighborhood, according to the news release. Two people were in the home, and Torres grabbed one victim while pointing a knife at her before allegedly demanding that she take him to her vehicle. The woman was able to separate herself from Torres, and he then left the home.
Torres was later spotted in the area of Randall Road and Joy Street approaching vehicles and asking for a ride, prosecutors said. Police came in contact with him a short distance from that area and said Torres fled before being taken into custody a short time later.
Torres was also charged in 2011 after he threw a Molotov cocktail at Butera Market in Algonquin. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released from the Jacksonville Correctional Center on parole in late 2018, the Northwest Herald reports.
If convicted on all counts in the Sleepy Hollow home invasion, Torres faces a sentence of between 74 and 245 years in prison. If convicted in the Kane County jail aggravated battery case, he faces up to five years in jail.
Torres remained in custody at the Kane County Jail. He is next expected in court on May 29 for preliminary hearings in the both the aggravated battery case and the home invasion case, according to online court records.
