St. Charles Makes Thrillist.com's List of Suburbs That 'Suck'

Have you ever wondered if your suburb sucks?

Apparently, Thrillist.com has, and has gone so far this week as to launch its own “investigation” into which suburban towns truly “suck.” The list is lengthy and includes jabs at several suburban towns -- many of which are affluent and most of which the website deems boring.

St. Charles did make their list but nearby Batavia and Geneva did not.

According to Thrillist.com, a website that targets Chicago readers, here is why it included St. Charles:

There’s no suburb with a wider gap between how it views itself versus how everyone else sees it than St. Charles. It’s that casual acquaintance at a party with whom you are constantly trying to end your conversation, but who refuses to notice. Or, as an alternative slogan, Jenny McCarthy’s runner-up choice as a marriage destination.

Other suburban towns that got called out for ”sucking” include: Elmhurst, Westmont, Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Hinsdale, Oak Park, Naperville, Schaumburg and several more.

The Thrillist.com article received dozens of comments from those who agreed with the towns on the list and others who would have liked to see their town make it.

Meanwhile, a lot of the commenters took offense to the entire article. While others got a good laugh. Here is what one commenter had to say:

Man, people get really touchy about their towns. I found this light-hearted worth a skim just for the heck of it. People gotta lighten up!
