ST. CHARLES, IL — Two teens now face prison time after admitting Wednesday to starting a fire at the former Pheasant Run resort in May 2022.

The Daily Herald is reporting the boys, a 17-year-old from Carol Stream and a 15-year-old from Wheaton, pleaded guilty to felony arson in DuPage County Court Wednesday. Meanwhile, two other boys, a 15-year-old from Winfield and a 14-year-old from Carol Stream, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing in connection with the May 21 fire that took four days and the work from more than 100 firefighters to put it out.

The boys are set to be sentenced on April 19. Authorities say the teens illegally entered the former resort at 4051 E. Main St. in St. Charles at about 4:40 p.m. on May 21. Two of the teens set papers on fire at two separate locations in the building and then left the area without trying to put the fires out, according to fire officials.

Authorities obtained several Snapchat videos and photos that led to the arrest of the four teens, including one image showing plumes of smoke coming from the shuttered resort with a caption that read, "caused a fire."

The Pheasant Run Resort has been closed since early 2020.
