TINLEY PARK, IL — Foregoing the unseasonably warm weather and clear skies, hundreds of Tinley Park children and their families made their way to the Tinley Park Convention Center Saturday, Oct. 22 to enjoy an afternoon of music, magic, games, bounce houses, food, prizes, gourmet popcorn, and ice cream treats at the Tinley Park Ice Cream Social.

The fun-filled, several-hour event, free for all attendees, was organized by elected officials from the One Tinley Park organization and local townships. The One Tinley Park team, led by Tinley Park Mayor Michael Glotz, includes Clerk Nancy O’Connor and Trustees Bill Brady, William Brennan, Michael Mueller, Dennis Mahoney, and Colleen Sullivan. Partnering with the One Tinley Park team were Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady and Bremen Township Supervisor Kathryn Straniero.

In describing how the event came about, Mayor Glotz explained, “We are all blessed to live in such a family-friendly community. We wanted to bring together some of the families and businesses that make it that way, just a small show of appreciation and, of course, a lot of fun.”

Mayor Glotz also thanked the many local sponsors including The Whistle Sports Bar and Grill, Gas N Wash, Durbin’s Union Bar & Grill, Robinson Engineering, and Christopher B. Burke Engineering.

Tinley Park’s spacious Convention Center was filled with Disney ® themed bounce houses and inflatable games. Kids and adults alike took pictures with Batman and Mr. Hot Dog. Batman wowed the young kids by shooting hoops while Mr. Hot Dog was a favorite with the many teen volunteers from Victor J. Andrew High School and other local community groups who received service hours for volunteering with the younger kids. Benches on the Avenue artist Tim O’Brien painted dozens of little faces and Magician John Measner delivered “oohs” and “ahs” with every trick.

DJ Heavy E supplied the music and kept everyone on their feet dancing throughout the event, wrapping up the festivities with a Kids v. Adults Dance Contest that even Mayor Glotz and Supervisor O’Grady couldn’t resist, although neither took home a prize for their dancing skills.
