Boil Order In Effect In Western Springs Neighborhood
The order resulted from the inability to verify system pressure, the village said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β A "precautionary" boil order went into effect Monday night in a Western Springs neighborhood.
The order applies to Old Town North, west of Central Avenue and south of Oak Street, until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
In a statement, the village said the order was the result of a water main break that occurred near Hampton and Hillgrove avenues.

Under the boil order, residents are asked to boil their water for five minutes and allow it to cool before drinking. They may continue to use the water for non-potable uses such as bathing and washing without the need for boiling, the village said.
Residents are also advised not to use their ice machines and refrigerator-filtered water during an order.

The village said the most common reason for boil orders is that sustained pressure in a water main is below a certain number.
"However, a larger order may be issued if the Villageβs water system loses potential pressure and is unable to verify system pressures adjacent to the event," the village's statement said. "Due to the size of the break at Hillgrove Avenue and Hampton Avenue, the Village was unable to verify system pressure at various locations within the subdivision."
