Lion staffers nominated for national awards

Four submissions from two Lyons Township High School Lion newspaper journalism students have been nominated in the National Scholastic Press Association “Story of the Year” awards. Lion advisor Jason Scales submitted the entries last year; the winners will be announced at the Journalism Education Association and the National School Press Association (JEA/NSPA) Fall National High School Journalism Convention Chicago convention on November 3.

The nominations include:

Podcasts of the year: Two entries - Walkout and Jake Elliot -- Lars Lonnroth, senior of LaGrange

Blog of the year -- Lars Lonnroth, senior of LaGrange

More than one dozen LT student newspaper staffers plan to attend the national convention to participate in write-off competition alongside more than 1,500 other students and to take part in a variety of presentations by award-winning journalists from across the country, including keynote speaker Pete Souza, freelance photographer and professor emeritus of visual communication at Ohio University. Souza was the chief official White House photographer for President Barack Obama and the director of the White House photo office.
