Unlocked Cars Targeted In Series Of Western Springs Burglaries
Police say nine reports were taken on the night of June 28-29.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL - Police in Western Springs are investigating a series of car burglaries reported in one night. On the night of June 28-June 29, police say nine cars in town were entered and had items stolen. All nine vehicles had one thing in common: they were left unlocked.
From 8:45 p.m. until 11 a.m., reports were taken in the 5100-5300 blocks of Central Avenue, 4600 block of Clausen Avenue, 4100 block of Grand Avenue and 3800 block of Franklin Avenue. Cars parked both north and south of Hillgrove Avenue were targeted.
Police departments throughout the suburbs and all over the country have been urging residents to lock their cars every night through the #9PMRoutine campaign, which often comes with some entertaining memes shared on social media channels.

Even in Western Springs, a town that often makes the list of safest places in the state and even the country, you're vulnerable to car thefts when vehicles are left unlocked. Nearby Hinsdale saw a recent trend of thefts from unlocked cars one night earlier this summer as well.
