Western Springs Man Encounters Burglar: Cops

The suspect said he was there to remove a tree, police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A Western Springs resident found something suspicious when he returned home last week, police said.

About 1:30 p.m. Friday, the resident said he saw a car in his driveway and a man on his property in the 5300 block of Grand Avenue, according to a police report.

The man said he was there to remove a tree. Then he left in the car with two other people, police said.

The resident found his door was open and damage to a door and indoor safes, police said.

  • Miranda N. Hidalgo, 25, of Oswego, was cited about 6:30 p.m. Friday on two counts of retail theft. Police said she stole merchandise from both Mariano's and Walgreens, both at 4700 Gilbert Ave.
  • A man told police on March 13 that his daughter's bag was stolen from a table at Starbucks, 1013 Burlington Ave., while she was in the restroom. The bag and its contents were valued at $50.
  • A person in the 1000 block of Hillgrove Avenue told police Wednesday that her debit card was fraudulently used to withdraw $1,250 from her account.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Hickory Drive told police Wednesday that several fraudulent checks were written using his bank account information.
