Police believe the shooting was on the Eisenhower, but as of 7:30 a.m. the investigation is centered on the 5200 block of West Flournoy Street, where a white Jeep Liberty SUV with bullet holes sits. The 22-year-old man was reportedly the driver of the SUV and the woman a passenger when they were shot. Police have not released any information of a suspect vehicle.
Flournoy is closed between I-290 and Laramie, with traffic delays spilling over onto the Ike.
CBS-Chicago has reported that police have closed the westbound lanes of the expressway between Kostner and Independence to investigate. Access to that part of the expressway was still restricted as of 7:30 a.m.
Later, Illinois State Police expanded the closed area of the expressway to include much of the road between Western and Central avenues.
